TikTok has unveiled a new initiative aimed at using entertainment to drive positive social impact. Through the launch of TikTok Pro and the pilot of its Sunshine referral programme, the platform hopes to empower individuals to raise awareness, mobilise support, and raise funds for charitable organisations.
The roll-out begins in Germany, Portugal and Spain, with TikTok Pro offering a fresh way for users to enjoy content while supporting causes. Built directly into the app, the Sunshine Programme gives users an opportunity to collect “virtual Sunshine” by engaging with charity-related content — such as liking or reposting charity videos, following charity accounts, and making related searches. Sunshine can also be earned by referring others to join.
Once accumulated, this virtual Sunshine can be directed towards charities in the programme, and TikTok will then make a financial donation to those organisations on behalf of the community.
TikTok has already partnered with several international and local charities, including Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), WaterAid, Aktion Deutschland Hilft (Germany’s Relief Coalition), and the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU). More partners are expected to join in the future.
Charity partners have welcomed the initiative as a bridge between digital engagement and real-world change.
TikTok has ensured safety is at the heart of both TikTok Pro and the Sunshine Programme. The new app mirrors all of TikTok’s existing privacy, content control and well-being tools, while the Sunshine Programme is restricted to users over 18, with activities carefully limited.
TikTok Pro is already available on the App Store and Google Play in Germany and Portugal, with the Sunshine Programme launching imminently. Both TikTok Pro and the Sunshine Programme are expected to debut in Spain in the coming weeks.
This new move underscores TikTok’s push to transform digital entertainment into a force for good, connecting creators and audiences with causes that matter.
